Savoury Buttermilk Waffles



Adding cheddar cheese, chives, and bacon to sweet buttermilk waffles makes them taste even better than regular waffles. They're a tasty choice for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 1/4 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
  • Cooking spray for waffle iron

Instructions:

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk and melted butter

Mix well

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined

Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay

Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped chives, and crumbled bacon into the batter

Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray

Pour enough batter onto the preheated waffle iron to cover the waffle grid

Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron's instructions until golden brown and crisp

Carefully remove the waffle and repeat with the remaining batter

Serve the savoury buttermilk waffles hot with your favorite toppings or sauces
